Selae Thobagkale was born in Soweto but soon thereafter moved to Limpopo where she lived for three years. She started her television career at the age of 7. She was discovered in a classroom at primary school while in detention, her music teacher asked her to sing for the TV crew that had come to audition some kids and she’s been on TV ever since. Having been in the industry for 12 years, Selae has been lucky enough to do almost everything from featuring in movies, to acting in drama series, presenting reality shows, game shows and live shows to being involved in production as a production assistant, camera woman and editor in training.
She also had the opportunity of travelling all over the country and seeing what it has to offer. Towards the end of her primary school phase in the year 2000, she received her big break as a YOTV presenter, this opportunity set her career path in motion as it opened up even more opportunities for growth and maximum exposure. Within her presenting career she was nominated for a crystal award for best kids’ presenter in the year 2004. Her highlights have been hosting former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday and also interviewing the likes of Oprah Winfrey. However, being able to be an influential person in a lot of young people’s lives around South Africa has been the most fulfilling thing about being on TV all these years. Selae is currently doing her second year in BA media and international relations so that she can not only get a degree but gain more knowledge in what she loves. Now as presenter for Teen Gospel Live, “I feel that I am able to grow and take my presenting career to a new level. Furthermore, this is a platform from which I can further be an influence in showing people how cool and gratifying it is to walk with God,” says Selae. |
